All sales are announced to our newsletter subscribers first.
Our Dahlia Tuber Sale is online only and all sales are final.
If you have an item in your cart, it is not reserved until you complete checkout, successfully submit payment, and receive a confirmation order number and email. Dahlia Mania, especially for rare varieties, is a real thing. I completely understand the frustration of trying to check out while items go out of stock. This functionality is related to e-commerce and is not something we can control.
Once an order is placed, we are unable to add or remove items or combine shipping. Due to the manual nature of combining orders, making changes creates significant logistical challenges. For this reason, we keep our shipping prices as low as possible. If you would like to purchase additional items, you will need to submit a separate order, which will ship separately.
All sales are final and only qualify for a return if there is an issue with the item received, based on the guarantees outlined below. Any return requests are at the sole discretion of Petal Back Farm LLC.
We may set purchase limits on certain highly sought-after or limited-quantity varieties so that more people have a chance to grow them. These limits will be clearly stated in the product title. Please respect these limits when placing your order. Orders that exceed stated limits will be canceled and refunded.
Above all else, we want you to be happy with your order. Plant and tuber health is a top priority on our farm. We believe in working with nature, not against it. While we are not certified organic, everything is grown organically with plant and pollinator health in mind. We also introduce beneficial insects for pest management as part of our integrated approach.
In addition to our growing practices, we occasionally test for cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV), impatiens necrotic spot virus (INSV), and tobacco mosaic virus (TMV). These tests are costly, not always conclusive, and it is not economically feasible to test every plant. While testing can be a helpful educational tool, our primary approach is ongoing visual monitoring throughout the growing season and culling plants when appropriate.
We are very selective during dividing and reserve only our best tubers for sale. The less desirable tubers are what we grow ourselves. Some varieties store better than others, and it is possible that tubers may ship with minor cosmetic imperfections that do not impact viability or vigor. Our own field is a testament to this, as these are often the tubers we grow. While rare, it is also possible that a storage failure occurs between the sale and shipping. If storage loss occurs, we will refund those items from your order.
We follow the American Dahlia Society Gold Standard for dividing by sanitizing tools between divides. All tubers are triple labeled, and those labels are carried throughout the entire process, from planting to storing to dividing to shipping. Our tubers are inspected and approved by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture.
We guarantee that your tubers will arrive with at least one viable eye. Upon receipt of your order, please inspect your tubers immediately. If you have any concerns, email us at support@petalbackfarm.com within five days of delivery. Please include your order number and a photo. At the sole discretion of Petal Back Farm LLC, we may replace or refund affected items. Shipping costs are non-refundable. Please do not contact us via social media, as messages can easily be missed due to volume and filtering. Email is always the best way to reach us.
After five days from delivery, the buyer assumes all responsibility for tuber care. While your satisfaction is important to us, we cannot be held responsible for improper storage after delivery, growing conditions, neglect, pest damage, rot after planting, or similar issues. If you choose to pot up tubers for cuttings or use other advanced growing techniques, you do so at your own risk. These methods carry inherent challenges, even for experienced growers using viable tubers.
While we do everything possible to provide true and healthy varieties, mistakes can occasionally happen. If the tubers you receive are not what you expected, please contact us at support@petalbackfarm.com by the third week of September. Include your order number and a photo. At the sole discretion of Petal Back Farm LLC, we may replace or refund affected items. Shipping costs are non-refundable. Please do not contact us via social media regarding these concerns.
As noted above, our tubers are inspected and approved by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, and we follow American Dahlia Society recommendations throughout the growing season. This includes culling plants, sanitizing tools, occasional testing, and using organic biological methods to manage pests. Despite best practices, dahlias are living plants and can carry disease that is not always detectable or preventable. According to American Dahlia Society virus research, an estimated 87 percent of healthy, asymptomatic dahlia plants carry at least one dormant virus. One study found that 38 percent of clean stock planted from previously negative-tested plants in 2016 tested positive in 2017.
By purchasing tubers from us, you acknowledge and accept the inherent risks associated with growing dahlias as living plants.
All Wisconsin state residents will be charged sales tax.
We will begin shipping all dahlia tuber orders in April, weather permitting. Please note that it takes multiple weeks to process all orders. If your order includes items other than tubers, such as seeds or corms, all items will ship together in April. If you would like other items to ship sooner, please place a separate order.
At this time, we ship within the United States only. We do not offer international shipping, although we are actively in discussions with our Department of Agriculture. If this shipping timeframe does not work for you, please do not place an order, as we are not staffed to accommodate special requests.
All orders ship via USPS. Once your order ships, you will receive a confirmation email with tracking information. Please monitor your tracking carefully. We cannot be held responsible for packages left outdoors overnight or after delivery. Restocks, when applicable, will have separate shipping timeframes.
Due to e-commerce system limitations, we do not offer combined shipping. All shipping adjustments are completely manual on the backend, and combining orders significantly increases the risk of errors. For this reason, we use tiered shipping rather than a flat-rate model. This allows shipping costs and box sizes to better reflect the quantity of tubers ordered. While free shipping may appear attractive, those costs are built into product pricing. We are proud to offer some of the lowest shipping rates in the industry and will continue to evaluate and adjust as systems improve.
Local customers, please note that we do not offer farm pickup at this time due to logistical and time constraints. Even mail carriers have difficulty finding our farm. If this changes in the future, we will announce it via our newsletter.
You may preview available varieties on our website prior to the sale. All varieties will be marked as out of stock until the sale officially begins.
Please note that final availability and pricing are not guaranteed until the sale goes live. While we do our best to keep listings accurate and up to date, adjustments may occur as inventory is finalized.
On the morning of the sale, the preview page will temporarily be unavailable while we prepare the site for launch. Once the sale begins, the full inventory will be visible.
In the rare event of a storage issue prior to shipping, affected varieties will be refunded from your order.
That was a lot, but we wanted to make sure we covered all the bases. Hopefully, we can all get back to growing flowers now.
At the end of the day, we’re just a couple of dreamers who love growing things. As dahlia enthusiasts, we may enjoy the madness, but more than anything, we want you to have the best experience possible. Please know that we are doing our very best to make that happen.
From one dahlia lover to another, cheers!
And may the odds forever be in your favor 🙂
~Maggie, Matt, and The Dahlias
Below is all of the information regarding our dahlia tuber sale. Please review this information prior to the sale.
We hate rules, but we have learned that dahlia tubers can bring out the crazy in all of us, so let’s get the boring part out of the way so we can all get back to planting. By purchasing dahlia tubers from us, you agree to the following terms and conditions.
As noted above, the purchase and cultivation of live plants involves inherent risk. By purchasing tubers from Petal Back Farm LLC, you agree that any claim for damages shall not exceed the total purchase price of the tubers ordered.
Refunds or replacements are issued at the sole discretion of Petal Back Farm LLC. Petal Back Farm LLC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from the purchase, handling, storage, or cultivation of tubers.
All decisions made by the purchaser after receipt of tubers, including but not limited to storage methods, testing, pest management practices, culling decisions, propagation techniques, and other growing practices, are solely the responsibility of the purchaser. Petal Back Farm LLC is not responsible for losses, costs, or damages resulting from such decisions.
Tubers come in all shapes and sizes. Some are cute, some are downright ugly. What matters is not how they look, but that they are viable. A viable tuber has enough body to support growth, an intact neck, and at least one viable eye.
We guarantee that all tubers will be at least the size of a AAA battery, have an intact neck, and contain a viable eye. If there are any issues upon inspection, please email us a photo within five days of delivery and we are happy to help.
That said, tubers are living plant material, not uniform products. Some varieties store slightly wrinkled, have skinny necks, or have dormant eyes that are difficult to see. While we are selective, not every tuber will be picture-perfect. We would never send a tuber we would not plant ourselves, but if cosmetic imperfections are a concern, we kindly (and respectfully) ask that you do not place an order.
If there is any issue, concern, or question with your order, please reach out. We are always happy to help.
